Where Does Odor Come From?

Odor doesn’t come from the litter itself — it comes from chemistry. Cat urine contains urea, which bacteria quickly break down into ammonia, a highly volatile alkaline gas responsible for that sharp “cat smell.” Warm and humid environments accelerate this process, allowing ammonia to evaporate faster and spread through your home.

Our Natural Solution

Unlike traditional clay or tofu litters that rely on simple absorption, coffee-ground cat litter is engineered to solve odor and hygiene at the chemical level. Recycled coffee grounds naturally create a mildly acidic environment that suppresses odor-causing bacteria and reduces ammonia formation before it escapes into the air. Combined with plant-based fibers and sodium-activated swelling agents, the litter absorbs moisture rapidly, clumps in seconds without sticking to the tray, and dries waste efficiently to prevent breakdown and smell rebound.

Why Does It Work?

Coffee grounds are naturally mildly acidic, while the main source of litter odor—ammonia from cat urine—is alkaline. When they meet, a fast neutralization reaction converts ammonia into non-volatile compounds that no longer smell. At the same time, the slightly acidic environment and natural coffee polyphenols help suppress odor-causing bacteria, stopping smells before they spread.
